Years of unsustainable practices have taken a toll on the ecological systems that once gave such abundant life. Fortunately, some communities are beginning to see the light and an increasing number of effective, community-based programs are slowly building a conservation ethos among those who depend and sea and soil for their livelihoods. As the article below describes, a fishing community in Samar is discovering alternatives to destructive practices and awakening to the benefits of maintaining healthy ecosystems.
