Editorial Comment: Radical discoveries are going on at the frontiers of science especially in the area of mathematical physics and quantum mechanics. One of the more prolific scientists and philosophers in this area of research is Roger Penrose. Among many of his radical ideas is that he supports the reality of an independent world of ideas brought forward over two thousand years ago by the Greek philosopher, Plato. The great 20th century philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead, once said that all of western philosophy is a footnote to Plato. This article gives a flavor of the kind of thinking occurring at the leading edge of science, a kind of thinking which is increasingly transcending the self-imposed strictures of materialism.
